Saudi Arabia to introduce biometric system for Hajj, Umrah pilgrims

ISLAMABAD: The government of Saudi Arabia has declared the use of biometric system must for all the Hajj and Umrah pilgrims from February 6 (Tuesday).

The communiqué issued from the Saudi Embassy Islamabad revealed that the biometric verification of all the people intending to go to on Hajj or Umrah would be necessary before submitting their passports for the issuance of visa.

In Pakistan, the Saudi government has selected a company named “Aitmaad” for the biometric verification of the pilgrims.

When Online contacted Aitmaad Managing Director (MD) Tariq Elahi, he said that visa processing for visiting Saudi Arabia has become simpler than it has ever been in the past. He said that the company would provide visa centres and outreach offices throughout Pakistan.

At present, the company functions in the 17 big cities of the country, which will be extended under the instructions of the Saudi government.

“All the pilgrims for Hajj and Umrah are directed to take time in advance through the website of the company before visiting the nearest centre for biometric verification in order to avoid any inconvenience ”, he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Saudi government had postponed the induction of biometric system twice in November and December last year.
