LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Women Development Department Hameeda Waheeduddin on Monday said the Punjab government had taken a number of concrete steps for women empowerment as they were playing an important role in national development.
She was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a daycare centre at the Government College for Women, Baghanpura. The college Principal Rubina Ahmed Farooqi, DPI Colleges Zahid Mian, Director Women Development Arshad Baig, teachers and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.
Hameeda Waheeduddin said that with an aim to facilitate working women, daycare centres were being set up across the province under a phased programme.
She said that more than 102 daycare centres had so far been established while more such centers would be set up during the current fiscal year.
She said that Pakistan could not make progress without the active participation of women while adding that Pakistani women were very talented and have proved their abilities in different sectors of life.
She said that jobs quota in government sector for women had been increased from 5 to 15 percent and working women hostels were also being set up in various districts to facilitate them.
Then minister also said the government had ensured socio-economic development of women by taking further steps for the protection of their rights under women packages.
She also appreciated the standards of the facilities available at the daycare centre.
