PESHAWAR: Police arrested a suspect, Hamza Khan, on Monday for threatening an activist demanding justice for slain Mashal Khan.
Hamza Khan allegedly threatened Gulalai Ismail, founder of the non-governmental organisation Aware Girls, in response to her campaign of justice for in Mashal Khan, read a statement issued by Gulalai.
It is also said that the accused released video messages instigating others to activist’s life. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had removed the threatening video message from Facebook after a complaint was filed by Gulalai.
She said that she had been receiving such since June 2017. Gulalai said that FIA’s failure to arrest the miscreant led her to file a First Information Report (FIR) with the Police in November 2017. However, she continued to receive threatening messages through various fake accounts on Facebook and Twitter.
The person nominated in the FIR was later released on a bail by the District and Sessions Court of Peshawar.
Later, the police took action when Hamza Khan continued to threaten her through comments on her posts on the social media.
Superintendent Police (SP) Cantonment Waseem Riaz confirmed the arrest of 18-year-old Hamza Khan for threatening Gulalai and that further investigations were underway.
