Pakistan cannot ignore ‘alarming’ situation at LoC: FO

Foreign Office Spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal, calling India’s violation of the ceasefire agreement ‘quite alarming’, said Pakistan cannot ignore the situation at the Line of Control (LoC).

Speaking to Geo News on Tuesday, he explained that India has violated the ceasefire agreement more than 100 times in 2017.

The FO spokesman said that Islamabad is also keenly observing the budding nexus between New Delhi and Tel Aviv, as the two countries edge closer towards a free trade pact, which will likely include defence cooperation.

Moreover, the FO spokesman welcomed the statements given earlier by American diplomat Alice Wells.

Wells, the acting assistant secretary of state, earlier said that the US seeks to move towards a new relationship with Pakistan, based on mutual interest in realising a stable and prosperous region.

Dr Faisal said that the US diplomat’s statements are in accordance with the United Nations charter, respecting the sovereignty of other countries and not interfering in their personal matters.

Earlier On Jan 11, the FO said it was in talks with Washington over matters of mutual interest, including security assistance, but it was too soon to reveal more at this point in time.

In his briefing last week, Foreign Office spokesperson said the two countries were in talks over matters of mutual interest, including security assistance, details of which cannot be revealed to media just now.
