Illegal buildings in Murree to be demolished within five days

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered that all illegal buildings and structures in Murree are to be demolished within five days.

While hearing a case on illegal buildings in Murree, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar ordered the deputy commissioner (DC) to lend bulldozers so the illegal buildings are demolished within the stipulated time.

The CJP interrogated the DC about the ownership of the illegal structures, which reportedly exist in Murree since 2013.

The CJP ordered the DC that the court should be informed of any other case that could fall in this category, asserting that either these illegal structures fall or the DC will.

He asked for a list of people responsible for these illegal structures, adding that these were erected with the DC’s permission.

He then warned that if the SC inspection team identifies any illegal building, then there will be consequences since it needs to be proved that the state is run by rule of law.

The SC also took Suo Motu notice of all illegal property in Islamabad and summoned a list of such structures from the Capital Development Authority.

The case was adjourned until Tuesday.
