Sindh culture, heritage is richest in the world: CM Sindh

THATTA: Sindh Chief Minister,  Murad Ali Shah, addressed the first International Conference held at Makli, Thatta here on Saturday. He said that the culture of Sindh is one the richest in the world and the history of Mohenjo-Daro is central to it.

Although the historical heritage of Makli necropolis is not a famous necropolis, yet but it is a tale of thousands of people buried there who were a part of one of the early civilizations known to history, he added.

He assured that the recommendations presented by the experts and researchers during the conference regarding the improvement of the historical necropolis will be given due consideration, and the government will try to employ all its efforts to work for the implementation of the recommendations.

Challenges and problems faced by the global heritage necropolis Makli would be addressed on the priority basis and the issues would be resolved, the CM said.

Sindh govt is keen for the development of the historical places situated in the province and will provide full support for their preservation. He said that the government is with the people of Thatta district and it is our joint responsibility to protect and care for these historical assets.

On this occasion, Sindh Minister for Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives Sardar Ali said that the Makli necropolis is famous because of all the rulers and the common people of the time being buried in Makli.

He added that Makli necropolis is a great world heritage that has its importance in human history. He also informed the participants of the conference that the site was inscribed as United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) world heritage site in 1981.

Provincial Minister for Tourism, Muhammad Ali Malkani, Senator Sassui Palejo, Rukhsana Shah, Members Provincial Assembly, Sayed Sardar Ahmed, Sadiq Memon and others also addressed the participants of the conference.

The first day of the conference featured a documentary film prepared by Wasatullah Khan which was screened for the people in the first session of the conference

Various historical heritage stalls were set with an aim of representing the real history of Indus civilization in an informative and descriptive way.

The CM said that the senior leadership of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Sindh government is absolutely committed to serving the masses.

He also announced to establish a cardiac centre in Thatta district soon.
