Punjab govt to establish 1,200MW gas power plant: mimister

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Minerals and Mines Sher Ali Khan on Wednesday said, the Punjab government would soon establish 1,200MW gas power plant to meet future energy needs.

“We are committed to phasing out power crisis with a better planning and strategy,” he added.  The minister further stated that completing energy projects in time, was a priority of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, adding that energy projects had been started for development and prosperity of the country as these projects would eliminate darkness.

He stated that the Punjab government had completed numerous energy projects in a record period of time besides saving billions of rupees and that load-shedding had considerably been reduced due to completion of energy projects.

Sher Ali Khan stated that 3,600 megawatts and 1,320 megawatts Sahiwal Coal Power Plants were functioning efficiently and producing enough electricity to benefit people.

Replying to a question, he said, German experts had been engaged for technical cooperation for a new 1,200-megawatt gas plant.

He said the government would also set up seven small coal power plants for generating energy, adding these power plants would be set up near industrial centres and the process of identifying sites had already been completed.
