Allied Hospital MS says female patient alleging rape ‘not of sound mind’

LAHORE: A 30-year-old woman has claimed that two employees of the Allied Hospital, the largest healthcare centre of Faisalabad, had raped her in the hospital premises in the wee hours of Monday, however the hospital’s chief doctor rejected the allegation, saying the woman was “insane” and “not in a fit state of mind” to make such claims.

According to reports, the woman claimed that two paramedics had allegedly intoxicated and raped her in the hospital’s emergency ward.

Medical Superintendent Dr Khurram Altaf told Pakistan Today on the phone from Faisalabad that the 30-year-old lone woman, whose name is being withheld to protect her identity, came to Allied Hospital in the wee hours of Monday morning complaining of a “mysterious” illness.

According to Dr Khurram, as per the hospital’s standard procedure, the woman was being treated in the emergency ward when all of a sudden she raised a hue and cry about being sexually assaulted by two hospital employees.

Dr Khurram further said that the police was informed as soon as the issue came to surface and that the station house officer of the police station concerned had visited the hospital and started investigations.

He further stated that contrary to reports circulating in the media, no arrests have been made and the family of the victims have also been identified and informed about the incident. Dr Khurram stated that the relatives of the woman were also apprehensive about her claims “keeping in mind her insanity”.

On being asked by this scribe whether relevant tests have been conducted to ascertain the physical assault on the woman, Dr Khurram stated that the DNA and other relevant tests had been conducted and it showed that the woman had not been raped.

Dr Khurram further stated that the woman was currently being treated in the hospital and that all possible precautions were being taken to ensure that no further “harm” befell the “alleged” victim.
