Jadhav’s mother, wife meet Sushma Swaraj upon return from Pakistan

NEW DELHI: A day after meeting Kulbhushan Jadhav in Pakistan, the Indian spy’s mother and wife met Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at her residence, before leaving for the External Affairs Ministry (MEA) likely for a complete debriefing, according to a report in the Times of India.

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar were also present when Jadhav’s mother Avanti and his wife Chetankul met with Swaraj.

Jadhav is on death row in Pakistan, convicted for spying. The meeting at the Pakistan Foreign Office, held 21 months after his arrest, happened across a glass barrier, with Jadhav on one side, and his wife and mother on the other.

Pakistan claimed that it had permitted the meeting as a “humanitarian gesture, on the birthday of the father of the nation, Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah”.
