Passage of delimitation bill on time ensures timely polls: Marriyum

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb on Sunday hoped that the delimitation bill would be passed by the Senate next week, which would make timely elections a reality.

Talking to a private media outlet,  the info minister said that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had played a very positive role in allaying the reservations of opposition regarding the bill.

The passage of the bill would ensure holding of the elections on time, which would be in the interest of democracy, parliament and all the institutions, she added.

Commenting on the recent Imran Khan’s exoneration by the Supreme Court and anti-judiciary rhetoric by the ruling party, she said that prejudice in the application of the law for disqualification [of politicians] invited criticism.

Talking to a local media outlet, she said that same law applied to Imran Khan and former premier Nawaz Sharif, if Imran was not disqualified then Nawaz’s disqualification was bound to become controversial.

The minister said that when constitutional organs of the state hurled epithets like ‘Sicilian Mafia’ and ‘Godfather’ without any solid evidence, then the backlash from people was natural. “Nobody was satisfied with the verdict pertaining to Nawaz,” she claimed.

Referring to Hudabiya Mills case she said that now that it had been dismissed all other references and cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the basis of Hudabiya should also be quashed.
