Acting on a tip-off, the police started snap checking at Marwan bridge following information that a suspected person was travelling in a vehicle in Pharpur area.

As the suspected vehicle appeared, the police party signalled it to stop. Instead of stopping, an unidentified gun-man accelerated the car and also started to fire on police party.
