Sindh home minister expresses determination towards ending street crimes

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Home, Sohail Anwar Khan Siyal on Wednesday expressed determination to contain street crimes in the city soon with more efficient use of Sindh Police.

“The situation of Karachi is not as ideal as you want. Although it is much better compared to that of 2007. Extortion and terrorism incidents are under control and soon street crimes will be eliminated,” he assured the business community during his visit to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Earlier, KCCI President Muffasar Atta Malik, senior Vice President Abdul Basit Haji Abdul Razzaq and Vice President Rehan Hanif welcomed the minister, who was accompanied by a team of senior police officers including Additional Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Mahar.

The minister assured of strict legal action against the encroachment in markets, on streets and roads of the city.

However, he urged the traders’ associations to support the police in removing encroachment.

The businessmen were of the view that the police was facilitating the persons involved in encroachments in the markets and other public places and called for strict punishment to the ‘black sheep’ in the police.

The minister in response said that on proof of involvement, the police officer would be fired from the job immediately.

Sohail Anwar Khan Siyal, who is also the provincial minister for agriculture, said that Sindh Government was soon going to announce agriculture policy, which would be the first one in the country.

He said Sindh government was also taking more steps to strengthen the price control mechanism in the province.

KCCI President Muffasar Atta Malik and other businessmen representing different trade and market associations apprised the minister of the law and order and traffic issues in the city.

Both the sides agreed on increased interaction and cooperation between the police and the business community.
