CII calls meeting on Wednesday to discuss Faizabad sit-in

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has called an emergency meeting on Wednesday (Nov 29) to discuss the ongoing sit-in at Faizabad Interchange, a CII spokesperson said on Friday.

The meeting will be headed by CCI President Qibla Ayaz and has been summoned to discuss the issue of the amendment made to the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat oath in the Elections Act 2017, besides other issues.

The CII president said that the parliament had already resolved the issue in an appropriate manner; however, the meeting will “thoroughly” review the issue of the amendment of the oath.

Emphasising the importance of finality of prophethood, he said the issue was a matter of faith for each and every Muslim of the country, adding that the lapse in the law had been removed according to the aspirations of the nation.

Ayaz said that a recent amendment to the law has also closed the door of any ambiguity in connection with the law.

The CII is a statutory body with a minimum of eight and a maximum of 20 members, including one woman, whose function is to assist parliament on whether laws are in consonance with Islamic commands.
