Visa processing for students, businessmen will be bettered: Canadian immigration minister

OTTAWA: High Commissioner Tariq Azim Khan hosted a dinner in Canadian Immigration and Citizenship Minister Ahmed Hussen honour’s at Pakistan House, Ottawa and discussed with him the difficulties Pakistani students and businessmen face when applying for visas.

He said that the stringent and lengthy visa processes prove to be discouraging for Pakistani students admitted to Canada.

He also told the Canadian minister that trade relations between Pakistan and Canada needed to be improved and it was vital to allow traders from Pakistan to meet their counterparts in Canada to better the trade volume between the two countries.

He urged the minister to remove bottlenecks in the processing of visas to students and traders.

Hussen said that as a matter of policy, the government is working to reduce backlogs and speed up the processing of visa applications in order to allow genuine students and traders to visit Canada.

He assured the high commissioner that he will personally look into the complaints of bona fide applicants from Pakistan during his upcoming visit to the processing centres in the region.

He informed the high commissioner that progress has been made to speed up family reunion cases. He also gave assurances that he would facilitate Pakistani students in Canadian universities.
