Addressing the reporters following a meeting of the political parties, the speaker said all parties are united with regards to the bill and will vote for it when tabled in the assembly. Once the bill is passed in the assembly, it would be sent to the Senate for approval.

The political parties agreed on the draft during a meeting held in Islamabad with Speaker National Assembly in the chair. The meeting was attended by Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Aftab Sherpao, Akram Durrani among other parliamentarians.

In response to a question, Sadiq said a total of 780,000 people will be represented on one NA seat after the readjustment, adding the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will now begin the process of delimitation according to the latest population census in context of 2018 general elections.

On Tuesday, after chairing a similar meeting, Sadiq had told reporters that the total NA seats will remain 272, but there would be a change in the allocation of NA seats for the provinces. Similarly, Balochistan’s national assembly seats will increase from 14 to 16 and reserved seats for women from 3 to 4, while Islamabad’s general seats will see an increase of one seat.
