Pakistan-Qatar LNG contract matchless in terms of price, transparency: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, while commenting on the liquefied natural gas (LNG) contract with Qatar, said that Pakistan acquired LNG from Qatar at an unparalleled price besides ensuring transparency, adding that “information regarding Pakistan’s contract with Qatar is available to all”.

Speaking in the Senate on Thursday, he said: “We are open to debate on these contracts. I personally drew all these contracts.” It may be mentioned here Abbasi was the petroleum minister when the contract was signed.

On February 10, 2016, Pakistan and Qatar had signed an agreement for the supply of around one billion US dollars-worth of LNG to Pakistan annually to overcome the energy crisis in the country. The agreement on long-term LNG sale and purchase was signed during the visit of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s two-day visit to Qatar.

Speaking about the achievements of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government, the PM remarked: “When we came into power in 2013, there was no electricity or gas.” Now, people have easy access to LNG, he remarked.
