LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued notices to the Federal Ministry of Interior and other respondents and sought their replies within two weeks on a petition seeking the placement of the names of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and former Punjab Police inspector general Mushtaq Sukhera on the Exit Control List (ECL).
A division bench of the LHC was hearing the petition filed by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Ishtiaq Chaudhry.
Chaudhry submitted that the high court has ordered the government to make public the Model Town incident enquiry report. He pleaded the court to order the Interior Ministry to place the names of Shehbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah and Mushtaq Sukhera on the ECL so that they could not leave the country until the case is decided.
After hearing the preliminary arguments of the petitioner’s counsel, the court issued a notice to the Interior Ministry to file a response to the petition within two weeks.
On Thursday, LHC Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi ordered the Punjab government to release the enquiry report into the June 17, 2014, incident which had resulted in the killing of at least 14 Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers in clashes with police outside the Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Model Town.
At least 14 workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) were killed by the police during clashes near the Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Lahore’s Model Town area on June 17, 2014.
