Government Shahdara Teaching Hospital to get 100 beds in 2nd phase: minister

–Health minister inaugurates new laundry plant at the hospital

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir, on Thursday, said that the total capacity of Government Shahdara Teaching Hospital Project is 300-beds; 200-beds have already been made operational while another 100- beds would be made available in the second phase.

He said that construction of hostels for doctors and nurses is required on an urgent basis to start this institution, as it would help to retain the trained human resource.

While inaugurating the newly installed laundry plant and boiler in the hospital which has been established at a cost of Rs. 50 million, he the services of doctors and para-medical should wholly be appreciated.

He lauded their role in providing healthcare facilities for serving the needy people in government hospitals as millions of patients get quality healthcare facilities from these hospitals every year.

He said it is regrettable that only some mishaps were highlighted by a section of the society, adding that there is a need to promote the culture of responsibility and all of us should fulfill our duties with dedication for strengthening and improving the medical system. The minister disclosed that setting up nursing school in Government Shahdara Hospital is also a part of the scheme.

Meanwhile, a farewell function was also organized in honour of the Fatima Jinnah Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Fakhar Imam to commemorate his services in Government Shahdara Hospital.

Imran Nazir, Parliamentary Secretary Health Hassan Riaz Chaudhry, MS Dr. Shahid Farooq and others lauded the services of Dr Fakhar Imam for the promotion of medical education and health sector’s development.

Nazir said that Dr Imam played a vital role in the field of medical education, development of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and completion of various development projects at Government Shahdara Hospital.

Dr Imam said he believes in teamwork and all of his success is a result of hard work and dedication of his colleagues and subordinates who worked day and night to complete the projects. He also thanked the organizers for arranging farewell function in his honour. On this occasion, Minister Health Kh. Imran Nazir presented a shield to the outgoing Prof Sardar Fakhar Imam.

Parliamentary Secretary Health Hassan Riaz Chaudhry, Fatima Jinnah Medical University Vice Chancellor Dr Fakhar Imam, Government Shahdara Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Shahid Farooq, Mayo Hospital MS Dr Tahir Khalil, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital MS Dr Sohail Rana, Government Shahdara Hospital former MS Dr Pervaiz Imtiaz, members of Patients Welfare Society and a large number of doctors, and nurses was present on this occasion.
