Church of Pakistan president bemoans Rohingya genocide

PESHAWAR: Church of Pakistan President Bishop Sarfaraz Humphrey Peter has condemned the brutal genocide of Muslim community in Rohingya and called for the oppressed Muslims to be granted nationality.

Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, he said that the massacre of the Muslims including children, women and old men in the country should be stopped and legal status be given to them.

Accompanied by Dr Hafiz Abdur-Ghaffoor, Maulana Tayyab Qureshi, Maulana Abu Bakar Qadri, Radesh Singh Tony and Priests Shahzah Murad, Joseph John and Altaf, he said that due to the oppression of the Burmese Army, Muslims had run away and crossed the border towards Bangladesh.

Peter claimed that since the government of Myanmar had not signed a few of UN Resolutions, it, therefore, is not fully supporting the human rights cause, adding that it had no right to treat the Muslims like animals and humiliate them.

Other present appealed to all those who believe in one God, and asked them to raise their voice for the sake of humanity. They also demanded the Burmese government give nationality and protection to the Muslim community.

Appreciating announcement of Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz to provide all kinds of aid to the Burmese refugees, they demanded the government of Pakistan to take steps to accommodate the innocent Muslims in the country.
