Mehr al Qamar, a brilliant student of the Punjab Group of Colleges, topped the Chief Minister’s Speech and Essay Writing Competitions and received a cash prize of Rs 161,000 here on Tuesday.
The prize was awarded by chief guest Punjab Higher Education Minister Syed Raza Gillani in a prize distribution ceremony held at the Government Islamia Postgraduate College for Women, Cooper Road.
Addressing the students, the minister said that co-curricular activities help develop students’ intellectual and self-confidence which help them later both inside and outside classrooms.
He was of the view that the speech and essay writing competition had proved a challenge for the students and would help them improve. “The competitions are part of the government’s commitment to help students grow. It will help students exhibit their individual talents, which will in turn help them excel in practical life,” he added.
Gilani congratulated the winning students and asked them to show equally good performances in their studies to help develop Pakistan.
