Provincial govt has right to change IG Sindh, says Khursheed Shah

KARACHI: Senior Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah said that the Sindh chief minister has the authority to remove Inspector General of Police Sindh AD Khawaja from his position.

Speaking to media in Sukkur, the leader of opposition in the National Assembly stated that though the IG Sindh is a nice person but it is up to the chief minister to decide who to choose for the top slot in the police department.

Giving his reaction over the MQM’s whitepaper on the nine-year performance of the PPP, he said “the whitepaper is like showing light to the sun. Some of them (MQM) are involved in money laundering, some are on the run, they have even set fire to a factory for extortion money.”

He said that the people and Sindh government both are responsible for sanitation and waste disposal failure in Karachi.

“Sindh government should put a ban on plastic bags,” the PPP leader demanded.

Responding to a question, Shah opined that respective secretaries of health, finance and planning departments should be given four-year tenure, as short-term appointments adversely affect policy decisions.

The Opposition leader visited IBA Public school later in the day, where he spoke to media representatives.

The veteran leader suggested that there should be one exam centre for Intermediate exams.

“There should be zero-tolerance on copy culture and in view of taking action against it an education emergency must be imposed all over the country.”

He said that primary education’s level as weakened in general and schools are lying vacant.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday rejected the Advocate General (AG) Sindh’s request to dismiss the stay order that ensures AD Khawaja continues to serve as the IGP Sindh.

“Khawaja will continue to serve as the IGP Sindh till the final verdict is announced,” the court ordered.

Earlier on Monday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) had suspended a notification issued by the Sindh government that replaced AD Khawaja with Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
