Nine wounded in Mardan suicide attack

At least nine people were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up near a police vehicle parked outside a police station in Mardan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday evening, security officials said.

According to DPO Mardan Faisal Shahzad, the bomber detonated his suicide vest as he moved close to his target, SHO Ashiq Hussain’s vehicle.

Witnesses, however, said an explosion took place after a few gunshots were fired.

SSP Operations Saifullah Khan said the bomber was wearing a suicide vest that carried five kg of explosive material.

Another bomb attached to a motorcycle was later defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad, said an official.

Immediately after the explosion, the area was cordoned off and investigation was initiated.
