The students of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) had to face trouble as the location mentioned as examination centre on their roll number slips for the BA/BSC exams was incorrect, Pakistan Today has learnt.
According to details, the roll number slips had Government Middle School Sakandariya Colony Bund Road Lahore as the examination centre but the students were not able to find the school in the mentioned area.
A student of the AIOU told Pakistan Today on the condition of anonymity that he reached the area mentioned in the roll number slip, but found no school by that name.
“I managed to find my examination centre after enormous leg work and came to know that most students faced the same misery while locating the examination centre”, he said. He was of the view that some students approached the AIOU’s Lahore campus to launch their complaints but the university administration did not pay heed to their concerns.
A source from AIOU revealed that it was a deliberate action of Regional Director of AIOU’s Lahore campus Rasool Bakhsh Behram as he chooses the examination centre to give favor to his ‘blue-eyed’ people.
According to the rules set by AIOU, in case of non-availability of a high school, a middle school cannot be picked up for the examination centre without taking a go-ahead from the controller. A list was sent to the main campus of AIOU in Islamabad and a middle school was shown as a high school in that list on the behest of Lahore’s Regional Director.
A student who is taking exam in the middle school told Pakistan Today that a massive cheating is in full swing in the examination centre but this cheating is meant only for some selected students and this school was selected for examination centre for this purpose only.
Most students take admission in AIOU due to the relax and free examination criteria of the university as there is no strictness during the exam in AIOU as compared to the atmosphere of other university. When contacted, the deputy controller of Lahore campus of AIOU Muhammad Saeed Kamboh said that it is discretionary power of regional director to select an examination centre. The list for examination centres is sent to Islamabad by the consent regional director, he added. However, Regional Director of Lahore was not available for comment.
