Senior Deputy Convener of the Muttahida Quami Movement Dr Farooq Sattar said on Monday that the MQM was cleaning and collecting garbage from 10 to 15 UCs on a daily basis under the “Clean Karachi Campaign.”
Talking to media persons in Ranchor Lines area (UC-22), Dr Sattar said that the UCs 23 to 25 were already cleaned and they were now working at Lakhpat Hotel, Guddi Chowk, Jameela Street, and Ambaji Wela Road in UC-22. He said they collected tonnes of garbage from those congested areas.
He said that the city produced 24 tonnes of garbage daily and the MQM had disposed of 25 per cent of the city’s total garbage.
Sattar said that they could not dispose more than 25 per cent because they did not have appropriate machinery and resources but people thoroughly participated in the campaign. He said the MQM was planning to adapt Turkish underground garbage disposable system for Karachi.
Meanwhile, the nominated-mayor Wasim Akhter said that the PPP and Sindh government deprived Karachiites from hygienic environment and never paid any heed to proper sanitation and garbage disposal. He said that the Clean Karachi Campaign would become successful only because of the people’s support and participation.
