Consensus developed between Punjab govt, transporters to reduce fares

The Punjab government and transport owners after successful negotiations on Tuesday agreed to provide relief to commuters across the province after the recent reduction in oil prices.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Yaseen led the government’s delegation for talks with the transport owners. Reduction in fares of up to 6.16 per cent for intra-city and inter-city non-air conditioned (AC) diesel transport vehicles that operate within Punjab was announced. A deduction of fares of up to 11.9 per cent was also decided for vehicles that run on petrol.

All-Pakistan Transport Owner Federation and owners of air-conditioned transport vehicles have also announced to comply with the government’s decision to reduce the fares. Bilal Yaseen has instructed the District Coordination Officers (DCO) across the province to ensure that the decision regarding the reduction in transportation fares was being implemented.

CM DIRECTS TO REDUCE FARES:

Earlier, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif directed the transport authorities to reduce their fares as there had been a noticeable decrease in petroleum prices by the government.

In a statement in Lahore on Tuesday, he said the decrease in POL prices was a gift of the PML (N) government to the people. He directed the authorities concerned to ensure supply of POL products on new prices to the people.

He urged that prices of essential commodities should also be decreased according to ratio of the decrease in POL prices. He said that the fares should be reduced in order to facilitate the common man.

Later, while talking to a delegation, he said that national resources were being spent carefully and honestly on the welfare of the people. He said that transparency and merit were the hallmark of the PML (N) government. He said that all the projects were being executed transparently and billions of rupees had been saved in the projects.
