Police detain Qaeda operative for 30 days

An anti-terrorism court on Monday allowed the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) to detain a suspect said to be an operative of the banned al Qaeda for 30 days for questioning.
CTD officials along with their counsel produced the suspect, Abdur Raqeeb, before the ATC judge. The CTD officials told the judge that they had credible information that the suspect was involved in funding terrorists and other offences.
Raqeeb said to be al Qaeda’s Hyderabad chief was arrested in a targeted operation from PIB Colony on January 8. After an official notification, the CTD has now been empowered to keep the suspect for a period of up to three months.
The court allowed the police to keep the suspect considering legal provision 11 EEEEE (1) of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. The production of the suspect along with other documents was made in compliance with 11 EEEEE (3) of ATA for the information and record of the court.
