Cop arrested for extortion

One criminal killed in police encounter, three Lyari gang criminals arrested

Karachi police on Friday claimed to have killed a criminal, arrested an inspector involved in extortion and other three criminals and recovered weapons from their possession in the metropolis.

According to a police report, Saeedabad Station House Officer (SHO) along with a police party raided Afridi Chowk, 19-D, Baldia Town within the limits of Madina Colony Police Station, where an encounter took place between the police convoy and criminals. Resultantly a criminal, Riaz, was killed.

Police recovered a pistol with four rounds from his possession, while his two accomplices managed to escape from the scene. Criminals were involved in the target killing of SHO Preedy Ghazanfar Kazmi, the police claimed. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities

Napier police arrested three criminals of Lyari gang – Zikria, Jahanzeb and Majid. The police alleged that Zikria alias Jojo was involved in killing of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers and other people, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.

The accused was also wanted in Sub Inspector Rafiq Baloch’s murder.

Mithadar police arrested Inspector Muhammad Urs for collecting extortion money from complainant Muhammad Shabbir and also recovered Rs 50,000 from his possession. FIR for extortion was lodged against him. “Urs is a Police Inspector posted at AVCC, he has previously extorted Rs 150,000 from others,” SSP Shiraz Nazir reportedly said.
