PTI not to contest by-polls on seat left vacant after Hashmi

MULTAN-

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to boycott the by-elections in National Assembly constituency, NA-149 Multan II, which fell vacant after the party’s estranged president Javed Hashmi resigned from his seat, a private news channel reported on Monday.

The by-elections have been scheduled on October 16 by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

PTI’s senior leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, through a statement, announced that his party will not be contesting by-elections for the seat.

So far, only an independent candidate has filed his nomination papers to contest the by-polls. The last date of filing nomination papers is on Tuesday.

Earlier in September, Hashmi quit his NA membership after parting ways with the PTI chief for his alleged ‘anti-democracy’ designs while leading a sit-in in Islamabad demanding a resignation by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
