NEPRA approves reduction in power tariff

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a decrease in power tariffs for consumers across Pakistan with the exception of K-Electric consumers in Karachi.

The power regulator on Tuesday announced an 82 paisa reduction in tariff per unit after reviewing the power purchasing agency’s request. NEPRA sources said that during the month of May eight billion units of electricity were produced, out of which 34.5 percent was generated from hydropower projects, 36.58 percent from furnace oil while 22.45 percent was generated from the gas.

Earlier in March, the power regulator had increased the per unit price by Rs 2.24 which was applicable on all providers excluding K-Electric (previously KESC).
