SC moved, FIR ordered against Geo TV

A local court in Islamabad on Saturday ordered registration of a case against the management of Geo Television Network for allegedly airing blasphemous content in a morning show.

While hearing the petition filed by a citizen Saturday, Additional Session Judge Raja Jahangir Awan ordered Margalla Police to register a case against Mir Shakeelur Rehman, program “Utho Jago Pakistan” host Dr Shaista Lodhi, Veena Malik and Asad Bashir Khattak.

SC MOVED AGAINST GEO:

In the meanwhile, Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has registered a petition in Supreme Court of Pakistan against the administration of Geo Television Network over the same issue.

The petition was filed on behalf of SIC chief Sahibzada Hamid Raza and Syed Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi in the court against Mir Shakeelur Rehman, program “Utho Jago Pakistan” host Dr Shaista Lodhi, actress Veena Malik and Asad Bashir Khattak.

In their application, the petitioners pleaded the court take action against the parties under Article-20 of the Constitution and stated that SC should constitute a larger bench to hear the case.

Speaking to journalists on the issue, the SIC chief said that the Geo administration had strongly hurt the feelings of Muslims by airing “blasphemous program”. Syed Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi demanded Geo’s closure.

Moreover, anti-Geo demonstrations continued all over the country over the airing of an “insulting program”.
