JUI-F lawmaker’s residence declared sub-jail

Having been charged with torturing five policemen and snatching their weapons, Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) MPA Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran was shifted to Quetta on Wednesday, where his house has been declared as a sub-jail owing to security concerns.
Police, Anti- Terrorism Force had raided Khetran’s house in Barkhan a few days ago and discovered a private prison where at least eight people had been held captive.
The captives were freed and Khetran was charged with kidnapping and torturing five police personnel.
Barkhan District Police Officer Abdul Ghafoor Marri said that Khetran was being charged for three crimes – having a private prison, illegally detaining people and possessing illegal weapons.
Fearing for his security, the Balochistan Assembly had issued an order to provide appropriate security to Khetran.
“We are following the Balochistan Assembly orders,” Home Secretary Asad Gillani said after police deputed heavy security detail around his house.
“The house of Sardar Khetran in Quetta has been declared sub-jail. Personnel of police and ATF have been deputed for the security,” a police official said.
Earlier, talking to reporters, he said that cases were lodged against him on political basis as his political rivals wanted to win by-local government elections to be held on January 19 in Balochistan. The persons implicated in the case include candidates for contesting by-local bodies’ polls,” he said.
However, on other side, police officials claimed that they conducted raid at the private residence of Sardar Khetran in Haji Kot area of Barkhan district to recover a family, who was illegal kept detained at the private jail of Sardar Khetran. “Police recovered five people including four men and a woman from the private prison of Sardar Khetran,” they said.
