Security tightened for Eid in wake of terror threats

Environment Protection Minister and Police Reforms Committee Chairman Col (r) Shuja Khanzada said on Monday that all security arrangements to cope with any unpleasant situation on the occasion of Eidul Fitr had been completed.
He disclosed this while presiding over a meeting held to review the security arrangements for the upcoming Eid festival.
He said that 7,000 to 8,000 security officials would be deployed to maintain the law and order situation in the province.
The minister said that intelligence reports regarding terrorism threats on Chand Raat and the Eid day had been received for which security across Punjab had been tightened.
Khanzada said that police checkposts had also been established on Lahore’s entrance and exit points.
Furthermore, he said that in light of recent intelligence reports, police patrolling had been increased and close circuit cameras had been installed on the sensitive points of all districts of the province.
He revealed that CCTV cameras and walkthrough gates would also be installed on Eid and that no one would be allowed to enter without being thoroughly inspected.
Additionally, Khanzada made an appeal to the masses to immediately inform the police of any suspicious person or activity around them.
