Russians refuse to let PIA off the hook without payment

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is facing embarrassment and difficulties in its operations side after authorities at the Moscow airport have refused to release a PIA aircraft that made an emergency landing after developing a technical fault about two weeks back.

Much to the surprise of the flight crew and PIA high-ups in Moscow, officials there refused to handover the plane after they found that the national flag carrier had to clear some debt from the past for using the airport services and facilities.

Per details, a London-bound PIA aircraft (PK 785) with at least 128 passengers on board had to make an emergency landing at Moscow airport after one of its engines ceased to function.

Sources in the PIA said another aircraft flying to Manchester with over 200 passengers on board had been diverted to the Russian capital to take the passengers stranded there to Manchester for their further transportation to London.

PIA officials are still engaged with aviation authorities in Moscow to secure the release of the plane, but the Russians want the PIA to clear the outstanding dues that date way back to the times when PIA used to operate its flights to Moscow. These operations were suspended in early 2000 after operational difficulties of the national flag carrier.

Sources said that it would take another two to three weeks before a breakthrough was expected, probably after the Russians made the PIA pay the dues.

Sources said the episode in Moscow would add to the woes of PIA, already short of planes on national and international routes.

With hardly any aeroplanes serviceable the surplus staffed PIA which had Director Flight Operations, now has another Deputy MD Flight Operations courtesy PML N, with minimum of operations there are now more chiefs in the department than number of serviceable aircrafts.

Again very disappointing that PIA have once again shown little regard for their partners, very shameful for all. I wonder how much they owe! especially with 13 years of interested!

Commercial airline like PIA which is very very over staffed can not survive as their cost exceeds their revenue. The govt. of pakistan is spending tax payers money (from all citizens in the shape of sales tax/exercise tax on each and every item consumers buy), It would be better if govt.close PIA.

1.FIRSTLY you did nothing of the sort. You got hammered by India in 1971 which still holds Kashmir.USSR was 100 times more powerful than India. It collapsed due to internal economic and demographic problems.Had the paki armed forces actually got into a direct fight with the USSR it would have buried you!

2.SECONDLY this article is about UNPAID DEBT which the PIA/Pak government did not see fit to pay back fr the past 13 years!! This shows some indication of the national charecter.

3.The Russians have checkmated you the plan is more valuable than the debt so if you don't pay they will simply sell it to a third party and extract the funds!

    My suggestion!PAY UP!

Those maggots within the airline who are feeding off it, making millions while not lifting a finger and controlling the airline like mafia dons are solely to blame for this state of affairs. They have no love nor interest in aviation and are destroying a national icon and flag carrier to fill their bottomless pockets with ill gotten wealth but they are being watched and watched closely. Their time will come, quite soon and without warning.

This flight was carrying a cargo including more than 5 tons of mango and 6 tons courier material. Still the cargo is in the plane and PIA did nothing to transport that out for destination

The load of mangoes I heard were given to Pakistan embassy, who in turn must be having fun, perhaps do even some Mango Diplomacy. The money due to PIA must be as far back as 2003, when PIA operated flights Karachi Dubai Moscow Dubai Karachi. The responsibility for this lapse falls squarely on the man who was MD PIA in 2003-2004, his choice of GM Central Control, Director Flight OPS and Director Finance. As usual there will be no accountability. PIA will be stuffed with more cronies of the like and qualifications of scums like Aijaz Haroon, Shuja Naqvi, Nadeem Yusafzai etc. in key positions. These street smart crooks have become billionaires, while PIA has lost hundreds of billions in the process.

Understand one of the two engines had failed forcing it to land in Moscow. Even if the payment issue is resolved, can the aircraft fly back on one serviceable engine? This makes it the second PIA B777 to be grounded for want of serviceable engine/s! It's worth remembering that the largest loan (3.5 billion) in Pakistan's history at the time, was contracted for the acquisition of B777 fleet. So who's debt is it now?

It is all because of poorly qualified and sifarshees with fake degrees at the helm of state. When you have people working in corporate environments with no experience and take positions with political influences than then expect nothing more. Its sad for Pakistan as country, they are all corupt to maximum…

I bet the payments due to them had already been drawn of PIA and never reached the Russians. You PIA people only god knows how you are still flying, corrupt, incompetency and impotency of morals, no safety No security is rife. PIA means every flight Please Inform Allah ………………..the Pakis are in the skies…………………
