Anti-polio drive in high risk areas from 14th

A three-day anti-polio campaign in high risk areas of Rawalpindi will start from January 14 during which over 200, 000 children are expected to be administered anti-polio drops. The Punjab government has directed the district health department to launch a drive in 63 union councils. Health Executive District Officer (EDO) Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal said the reason behind focusing on these areas is the presence of people coming from Khyber Pukhtunkhwa to live in the city. Dr Zafar said 530 teams have been made to administer the anti-polio drops.
“A regular campaign will be launched in February in which more than 700, 000 children across the district will be administered anti-polio vaccination,” he said. Sources said district health department had asked for volunteers from the City District Government Rawalpindi for the campaign.
District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar, on the request of the district health department, called a meeting of the police and district administration to chalk out a plan to provide protection to the vaccinators in the 63 union councils.
