Work on passport offices abroad can speed up

Immigration and Passports Department plans to establish 23 passport offices in various countries to facilitate overseas Pakistanis.
In this regard, the department concerned had expedited the work as per directions of Minister for Interior, Abdul Rehman Malik to ensure functioning of these passport offices by mid January next year.
A senior official at the Ministry of Interior on Tuesday said these offices would be established in Italy (Milan), South Africa (Pretoria), Afghanistan (Kabul), Denmark (Copenhagen), China (Beijing), Hong Kong (Hong Kong), Belgium, Luxemburg (Brussels), Japan (Tokyo), South Korea (Seoul), Jordan (Amman), Iran (Tehran), Singapore (Singapore), Thailand (Bangkok), Austria (Vienna), Philippines (Manila), Egypt (Cairo), Bangladesh (Dhaka), Sri Lanka (Colombo), Nigeria (Abuja), Turkey (Istanbul), Brazil (Brasilia), Libya (Tripoli) and Darussalam.
The official also said that 12 offices were ready with machine readable passports in Ottawa, Kuala Lumpur, Damascus, Madrid, Sydney, Bradford, Tashkent, Washington DC, Athens, Vancouver, the Hague and Houston which were expected to start functioning by end of December.
The department with regard to clearance of passports backlog had also been directed to arrange three working shifts in its headquarters situated in Islamabad in order to clear the entire backlog.
