Proposed Judicial Complex underpass declared a security risk

Construction of the proposed underpass between the Judicial Complex and the district courts has been cancelled after being termed as a security risk and an overhead bridge would be constructed in its place now. According to sources, contracts of the project would be awarded to National Logistics Cell (NLC) and the construction work on the project would start during the current month.
The Punjab Chief Minister (CM), Mian Shahbaz Sharif had approved the construction of the underpass with the estimated cost of Rs50 million. Meanwhile, a group of lawyers including Raheel Khan, Khaliq Hussain Bhatti, Sardar Manzar Bashir, Humaira Abbasi and others met MNA (Member of National Assembly) Hanif Abbasi in this regard, who affirmed that an official institute had expressed concerns over the underpass terming it a security risk.
According to sources, MNA Hanif said that he would order the authorities concerned to start construction of an overhead bridge in place of the underpass. He further said that walkthrough gates would also be installed on both ends of the bridge to ensure the security of the residents, visitors and lawyers.
Expressing his views, District Bar President, Sajid Ilyas Bhatti said that delay in the construction of the overhead bridge would not be tolerated as it was very dangerous to cross the highway between the Judicial Complex and the district courts. He also demanded of the traffic police high-ups to deploy traffic wardens on the point until the construction of the overhead bridge was complete.
