NAB gives Turkish RPP ‘a clean exit’

In what appears to be a generous move, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has extended permission to a Turkish private ship-mounted power plant Karkay for “escape” without recovering $750 in a sheer violation of the Supreme Court’s orders, reported a private TV channel on Tuesday.
Transmission line worth Rs 1 billion, which was installed to provide power to the national grid, has also been cut and the ship is all set to leave Pakistan within 24 hours.
The Supreme Court, following marathon hearings into the country’s one of the largest corruption cases, had declared the rental power projects illegal, ruling that amounts that had been given as advance payments by the government be recovered.
However, the channel reported that the administration of the power project had finalised all arrangements to leave the country without returning the down payment.
It said though the power plant failed to supply 232megawatts of power, its administration is all set to leave Pakistan by paying less then $20 million.
