One person was killed while seven others were injured in a shootout between rival gangsters near Borh Wala Chowk on Tuesday. Per details, Waseem Tipna, a gangster wanted in several serious cases including murder and extortion, was travelling in a car along with his accomplices when at least six members of a rival gang opened fire on them, leading to an intense shootout. One person of the Tipna gang, later identified as Alamgir, succumbed to bullet wounds while five others, including Tipna suffered serious injuries and were moved to the Mayo Hospital for treatment. Two passers-by were also injured in the attack. Panic spread in the hospital as armed members of the Tipna gang roamed the premises without fear of being targeted by the police, who played the role of silent spectators. The police is yet to register a case of the incident and initiate legal proceedings against the gangsters. According to sources in the police and the underworld, Tipna was a career criminal and had remained associated with notorious gangster Mazhar Tibbi, who was gunned down in a police encounter some years ago. Tipna had sought refuge in the tribal areas since long to evade arrest. The sources said that he had returned to the provincial capital a few days ago. They added that his gang members had targeted a rival gang three days ago, injuring one person and this might have provoked a retaliatory attack against Tipna.
