Kayani meets Raja ahead of Russia visit

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani called on Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf a day before his four-day visit to Russia.
According to media reports, strategic issues and matter pertaining to Pakistan army were discussed in the one-on-one meeting, sources said, adding that foreign office officials later joined the meeting.
Kayani held consultation with the PM ahead of his October 3-6 visit to Russian where he will hold talks with Moscow’s top military leadership and is likely to meet some political leaders.
It is expected that he will also meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, who recently called off a scheduled visit to Pakistan.
Analysts say Kayani will give a push to Islamabad’s efforts to improve relations with Moscow ahead of the pull out of foreign troops from Afghanistan.
This will be the Pakistan Army chief’s first visit to Russia since 2009, when he had made a trip at the invitation of his counterpart.

Let us keep our weight, this time, in this newly developing relationship with Russia, unlike those of the past diplomatic relationships with US and other countries…..in which we were totally taken away by their control and by our fascinations with them. The more nearer this country is, the more critical it is…..
