Asghar Khan case: Durrani names spies involved in rigging

The former Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Asad Durrani has submitted a list of officers involved in alleged distribution of money to politicians in 1990 elections.
A three-judge bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain was hearing a petition, filed in 1996, by Air Marial (redt.) Asghar Khan accusing the ISI of rigging 1990 elections by disbursing Rs140 million to prevent Pakistan Peoples’ Party from winning in favor of Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI).
Earlier, Durrani was asked to submit the list containing names of ISI officials to substantiate the evidence.
The former spymaster said that the money was distributed on the direction of then Army Chief Mirza Aslam Baig.
He further added that Rs70 million were distributed by him while rest of the money was deposited in ISI’s fund, adding that the intelligence officers who distributed money belonged to Military Intelligence (MI).
The case is adjourned till July 30.

As our courts at the highest level are involved in bringing down the present govt, instead of deciding cases of extreme importance.

The ongoing struggle has opened up deep fissures in Pakistan’s political class. While many Pakistanis maintain profound respect for the Supreme Court and its justices, political analyst Ayesha Siddiqa says there are serious doubts about the action it has taken. Good point & while Ive not read Ayesha's view, I think SC is doing the right thing. Every province is struggling in Pakistan, through internal politics & its only through eliminating the present govt. can we even imagine things improving.

Finally a prayer: Death to jiyalas.

Mirza Aslam Baig is directly responsible for stealing Rs. 140 million from Habib Bank, money that belonged to depositors and distributing to politicians and appropriating for ISI. he should be made an example and sent to prison for the rest of his life.

Asghar Khan Case has made Pakistan a laughing stock. It is not only mockery of Pakistan but the people as well. Conspiracies are hatched against PPP since its inception. Younis Habbib very clearly mentioned that he was compelled to level fabricated cased against Asif Ali Zardari. What is the compensation for damage that PPP received from IJI. Nawaz Sharif today is trying to become the champion of democracy was the main culprit. Doesn’t he deserve a capital punishment? Earlier Saif ur Rehman confessed that Zardari was charged on graft cases leveled on the direction of Nawaz Sharif and now Younis Habib repeated the same story. What is the legal position of these cases against Asif Zardari? Would honorable CJP take any sue moto on this issue?
