Memo commission rejects application seeking Pasha as witness

The Judicial Commission probing into the memo case on Thursday rejected an application seeking former ISI chief Lt Gen (r) Ahmad Shuja Pasha’s appearance before the commission as a witness. The hearing of the memo commission was headed by Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Esa. The first session of the hearing was held in-camera in which the director and deputy director of Foreign Office briefed the commission regarding the alleged use of secret diplomatic funds by former ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani last year. The commission expressed its lack of confidence over the written note submitted by Hussain Haqqani regarding the utilization of secret diplomatic funds.
Then in the open session, Zahid Bukhari, who is the counsel for Hussain Haqqani, requested the commission to hand over to him the video record of commission’s proceedings.
Akram Sheikh, the counsel for Mansoor Ijaz, objected to the request, saying Haqqani was not following the proceedings and was blaming the courts. Bukhari said he had submitted details of the use of secret diplomatic funds to the commission but the commission regarded it as only a piece of paper. The commission also rejected an application of PPP leader Raja Riaz because of not following the proceedings.
