CRM discusses formation of national coordinating group

In a bid to end violence against children, the Child Rights Movement (CRM) Secretariat held a special meeting on Thursday.
The meeting discussed the background and strategic framework of the South Asian Initiative to End Violence against Children (SAIEVAC) and the importance of forming a National Coordinating Group to represent Pakistan.
The SAIEVAC aims at the realisation of children’s rights, to prevent and respond to all forms of neglect, abuse, exploitation and violence against children in all settings, to promote the adoption, implementation and monitoring of integrated national strategies and to reinforce regional cooperation to end violence against children. Within this forum, South Asia Coordinating Group (SACG) on action against women and children was formed.
SAHIL Executive Director Muneezeh Bano and Gulnaz from SPARC shared relevant information with 25 participants of CRM from various organisations. Samina Sardar from Plan Pakistan also shared the importance of SAIEVAC.
Children’s Parliament Pakistan representative and Rawalpindi Regional Assembly Speaker Arsalan Lateef also participated in the meeting.
It was decided that a 9-member national level committee will be formed, which will then elect the committee chair and co-chair. The committee will work on areas identified by SAIEVAC to meet its aims and objectives.
