FBR gears up to collect revenue from GLT Units

Federal Board of Revenue is geared up to collect duties from Tobacco Green Leaf Threshing Units (GLTU) under the rules to make up shortfall in the overall revenue collection, a source inside FBR said. For this purpose, the sources said, FBR will closely monitor the record of the units with regard to sale, purchase and customers on monthly basis as prescribed in the rules as the FBR officials have been directed to plug the leakages.
They said FBR was faced with a loss of Rs 10 billion annually from this sector due to non-implementation of FBR rules for maintenance of records and payment of federal excise duty. Under the said Rules, each GLT Unit is bound to file necessary information about its sale, purchase, and customers on a monthly basis to the FBR.
