Vegetable, fruit prices remain stable, sales decrease

Most vegetable prices remained stable in the weekly Sunday Bazaar of the city as compared to last week’s prices, however the sales decreased as compared to last week’s sales. This week the prices of chicken and tomatoes witnessed an increase of Rs 10 and Rs 6 per kg respectively. According to the Sunday Bazaar rate list, chicken was sold at Rs 157, an increase on the previous week rate of Rs 147. While this week tomato was sold at Rs 40 per kg compared to last week’s Rs 34.
The prices of most of other vegetable items witnessed a slight decrease. During this week, potato was sold at Rs 36 per kg, onion Rs 22 per kg, ginger Rs 108 per kg, garlic at Rs 108 per kg, black pepper Rs 48 per kg, lemon Rs 132 per kg and ladyfinger at Rs 30 per kg. In the fruit section, prices also mostly remained stable. This Sunday, apples were sold at Rs 100 per kg, apples (golden) were sold at Rs 60, and bananas were sold at Rs 70 per dozen. The stall holders of fruit and vegetable were of the view that their sales had decreased from last week.
During the visits of the city’s Sunday Bazaars it was observed that visitors of bazaars, especially females, were not interested in purchasing fruit and vegetable items and instead were busy purchasing grocery and cosmetic items for Eid.
The women were seen buying clothes, bangles, jewellery, footwear and garments for their children.
