Calligraphy exhibition opens at Lok Virsa

An exhibition of Islamic calligraphy, ‘Quran and Peace, by eminent artist Muhammad Azeem Iqbal, opened here at Shakarparian under the aegis of Lok Virsa (National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of Pakistan to mark the holy month of Ramadan. The ceremony was inaugurated by the chief guest, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan.
The event was followed by Iftar. A large number of people including art lovers, media persons, cultural personalities and general public attended the ceremony and praised the excellence of the artist. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Firdous said, “Islam gives us a message of peace, unity and brotherhood among mankind. If we really follow the spirit of Islam and the Islamic traditions, we can easily come out of our problems today.”
Pakistan has a deep and historic background of beautiful calligraphic traditions, which needs to be projected, she added. The minister appreciated the contribution of Lok Virsa in documenting and preserving the traditional art of calligraphy in a professional way. She also congratulated the artist for creating marvellous masterpieces of the calligraphic art. The exhibition will remain on display at Lok Virsa Heritage Museum till 29 August daily between 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. (except Friday).
