CDGK, KDA staff assured payment of pending salaries

After a demonstration by the employees of the defunct Karachi Development Authority (KDA) against non-provision of salaries, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has negotiated with the protesting officials, assuring them that their salaries would be released in a day or two.
A large number of KDA employees staged a protest outside the office of Administrator Fazlur Rehman on Thursday morning.
They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands, and chanted slogans against the present city administration. During the protest, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Muhammad Hussain Syed arrived on the spot and persuaded the protesters to end their protest. The DCO then held talks with the protesters at his office and assured them that arrangements had been made for paying the salaries of the staff. It is noteworthy that the staff of the CDGK and KDA has been deprived of two months’ salaries, that is June and July, due to financial crisis and the administrative changes made by the Sindh government.
The DCO said that the city government did not have the resources to pay salaries to its employees on time as the provincial government releases Rs 327 million against the required Rs 705 million to the CDGK every month for paying the salaries to its employees.
The DCO also said that the CDGK has only Rs 100 million to pay for the salaries, whereas the remaining amount would be paid soon.
He also assured the protesting staff that he would talk on every level for the payment of salaries on a timely basis and soon they would receive good news in this regard.
