Pakistan should focus on overcoming problems: seminar

Participants of a sitting on ‘Current Situation and Quaid’s Pakistan’ arranged at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on Saturday unanimously agreed that people should focus on resolving the problems the country is facing rather than debating the objectives of the creation of Pakistan.
Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami, who presided over the event, said Pakistan should be run according to the vision of Jinnah and Allama Iqbal and the country should learn from its past mistakes. He said positives should be drawn from countries that have achieved success, adding that Turkey should be a role model for the nation. Nizami said the country now had a free judiciary and media, adding that all political parties were also functional. He lauded Nawaz Shairf’s suggestion of forming a commission to create new provinces.
Former foreign secretary Shamshad Ahmad Khan said elections should be held after every three years to get rid of corrupt politicians. “The time has come when we hold ourselves accountable for what we did in the past,” he said.
Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami discussed various historical aspects behind the formation of Pakistan and read his editorial for the 65th Independence Day. He said Pakistan was formed through votes and arguments on the country’s formation were needless.
