Pakistan to take part in Asian U20 Rugby

Pakistan under-20 rugby will take part in the Asian under-20 championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in early September. The Pakistan Rugby Union received a confirmation from Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) that Pakistan under-20 have been invited to take part in a tournament along with host Uzbekistan, Singapore and Kazakhstan. All the other three teams are extremely strong so it will be a great experience for the under 20. This is the third time Pakistan junior team will take part in an international tournament. Pakistan under-20 team traveled to Philippines in which they played against Philippines, Laos and Iran. Pakistan won the game against Laos 7-9.
Pakistan’ first participation in age grade rugby was when it hosted the Asian under-19 Championship in Lahore in which 11 international team competed in what was also a World Cup Qualifier.
The Pakistan Rugby Union has been holding regular camps for the under-20 players. This Sunday will see the under-20 take on Lahore Rams, the team managed by veteran national team player Tariq Niazi.
President Pakistan Rugby Union Fawzi Khwaja said: “The PRU was committed to further development of the youth program. The youth is the future. The boys who go on tour will get great exposure to some great rugby as this year’s competition is very competitive with some very strong teams.”
Secretary PRU Arif Saeed said that last month in the ARFU meeting, the Asian union expressed its satisfaction over the measures taken by PRU for the promotion of the game in Pakistan.
