Only MICS qualified managers to be inducted into shipping sector

Only MICS qualified managers in chartering would be inducted in the shipping industry of the country and in order to promote professionalism in the industry, the Collectorate of customs may make it mandatory for all shipping agents and stevedores to have qualified MICS managers as per practice in neighbouring countries.  This was stated by speakers at the 100th anniversary celebrations of the local campus of the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers London in Karachi held at the Royal Rodale Club Auditorium. The function was largely attended by its members, and the driving force behind this celebration and activities of the institute was its honorary Secretary Capt SM Ajmal Mahmoodi, who in his address highlighted the activities of ICS Karachi branch and courses conducted for qualifying MICS examinations.  He said that the Karachi branch has been instrumental in educating the local youth by competing skilled education in ‘chartering’ practices and ‘ship husbanding’. He congratulated those candidates who have successfully completed the MICS examinations at the institute. Former director general of Ports and Shipping Capt Anwar Shah, Oceanic Surveyors Chairman Capt Khalilur Rahman Khan and Henderson CEO Capt Mohammad Zia Alam distributed the certificates among the passing out candidates of the institute. Captain Anwar Shah while addressing the gathering said that Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) in future will only induct MICS qualified managers in its chartering department. The celebrations concluded with vote of thanks and assurance to promote activities of ICS in Pakistan with greater zeal.
