NHMP successful in providing safe road experience to public: IG

National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP)’s has successfully met its goals to enforce law, regulate traffic, ensure safety and provide timely and effective help to road users said Inspector General (IG) NHMP Zafarullah Khan while inspecting the passing out parade of 170 junior patrol officers (JPOs) at the NHMP Training College.
The IG said the Transparency International had rated the NHMP at 13th position among the most transparent departments in the world and the Asian Development declared it as a role model for others. He said ever since its inception in 1997, road accidents reduced by 70 percent as the NHMP has maintained better discipline on roads through briefing and educating road users and implementing traffic laws. The IG said 19 road Safety Institutions have been established all over Pakistan to train drivers with better road sense.
The IG also inaugurated the renovated Guidance Centre and Road Safety Institute situated at Thokar Niaz Baigh Lahore. Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Inkasar Khan briefed the IG about the working of Guidance Centre and establishment of Road Safety Institutes in Okara and Sahiwal in the next phase. The IG also announced a grant of Rs 500,000 for efficient working of the Guidance Centre.
Deputy IG N-5 Central Fateh Sher Joyia, DIG Motorway Dr Shafiq, DIG Training Shahid Yar Khan, Commandant Training Institute SSP Jahanzeib Khan Jogezai, SSP Central-I Inkasar Khan, other high officials of the NHMP and families of the passed out JPOs were also present on the occasion. 170 officers took part in the six-month Third Basic Course that comprised basic course, driving course, wireless course and security course. The NHMP IG distributed certificates and shields among the position holders of the course and staff of the NHMP Training College.
